There exist several interesting sources of weather forecast and climatic data.
Copernicus Climate Data Store
For climatic data, it is worth to mention the Copernicus Climate Data Store, which is a huge archive of various datasets related to clima.
Especially those datasets can be of interest of agriculture:
- ERA5-Land hourly data from 1981 to present - Various types of temperatures (surface, soil, ...), lake ice cover, snow cover, soil water, radiation, evaporation and runoff, leaf area indices, etc.
- ERA5 hourly data on pressure levels from 1979 to present - for atmospheric analyses
- Agrometeorological indicators from 1979 to 2018 derived from reanalysis - aggregation of agriculture relevant variables in a convenient form.
yr.no
Talking about the weather forecast data, the renowned yr.no service provides also open API. For further information, take a look at the blogpost describing download services and open source software available.
Meteoblue
Meteoblue can be mentioned as an example of a commercial provider of both climatic data and weather forecast focused on agriculture. The company Meteoblue, a spin-off company of the University of Basel was based in 2006 to serve customers especially in the area of agriculture as well as solar and wind power.
The agriculturally relevant data and API's provided by meteoblue are following:
- meteoblue weather API (Weather history download API example, Climate API example).
- Agricultural data.
More about the Copernicus Climatic Data Store and the Meteoblue data can be seen at the recordings of Webinar on Climate & Agriculture.
